Amazon Prime Day Deals 2019

UPDATE – The sale has now ended, but they do have more deals to check out.

It’s time again for Amazon’s yearly Prime Day sales. Monday and Tuesday (July 15th and 16th), Amazon is running lots of sales for those with Prime membership. There will be some Bibles included in the flash sales, and lots of tools for Bible marking. There are also a lot of devices that are great for reading and Bible study. Here’s a look at some of my favorite Prime Day deals.

Kindle Paperwhite

The Paperwhite has a 6″ e-ink screen with a resolution of 300 ppi which is higher than many tablets. It has a front light with 5 LEDs so your eyes don’t get as tired while reading like from the backlighting of tablets and phones. It’s excellent for reading for long periods of time. It’s waterproof and is available in 8GB and 32GB models. It integrates with Audible and plays the audio through Bluetooth.

The sale price starts at $84.99 and it comes with a $5 eBook credit and 3 months of Kindle Unlimited (a $30 value). If you subscribe to Kindle Unlimited anyway (like I do), this essentially makes the Paperwhite $50.

All New Kindle

The All New Kindle has a 6″ screen with a ppi of 167. It includes a front light with 4 LEDs and comes with 4GB of storage. It’s not waterproof, has a lower resolution, and has half the storage of the Paperwhite, but it’s a great choice for the money. I recommend it for the more casual reader.

It’s $59.99 and includes a $5 eBook credit and 3 months of Kindle Unlimited, which essentially makes the price $25 if you’re paying for Kindle Unlimted anyway.

Kindle Oasis (2017)

While the upcoming Oasis 3 won’t be on sale, the 2017 model will be. This is the deluxe Kindle with a 7″ screen at 300 ppi. It’s front-lit with 12 LEDs. It’s waterproof, has built-in page-turning buttons, an aluminum casing, has an ergonomic design, and has Audible integration with BlueTooth. It’s available in 8GB and 32GB models. It doesn’t include the color temperature controls of the upcoming model, but this model is still worth a look.

It starts at $175 and includes 3 months of Kindle Unlimited, which brings the price to the equivalent of $145 if you’re already paying for Kindle Unlimited.

The Fire HD 10 starts at $99 (saving $50) for one, or $180 for two (saving $120).

Fire HD 8

The Fire HD 8 has a screen resolution of 1200 x 800 (189 ppi), a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and is available in 32GB and 64GB models that are expandable to 400GB using microSD. The Fire HD 8 is an excellent choice for preaching, teaching, and Bible study, and a great choice for carry.

The Fire HD 8 starts at $49.99 (saving $30) for one, or $79.98 for two (saving $80).

Fire HD 7

The all new Fire 7 has a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 (171 ppi), a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and is available in 16GB and 32GB models that are expandable to 512GB using microSD. The Fire 7 is not as powerful for Bible apps, but it does run them and it’s a great choice for anyone that wants a tablet for casual use. It’s still a good choice for preaching, teaching, Bible study, and for carry.

The Fire 7 starts at $29.99 (saving $20) for one, or $49.98 for two (saving $50).

Ending Thoughts

I prefer the Kindle models for reading and for carrying with me. They’re great for reading without distractions and the batteries last for a long, long, time. I like how amazing they look in direct sunlight, and the front-lighting lets you read without a light shining in your eyes. If reading is your goal, the Amazon Kindle is the best option. It’s designed to do one thing and do it well.

The Fire tablets are better for Bible study and preaching. They can run lots of apps that are great for study (such as Logos, OliveTree, Accordance, Laridian, YouVersion, etc.), and for presentation (PDF, Word, Powerpoint, Bible apps, etc.). The color screens are better for photos.

There are LOTS more Prime Day sales in just about every category. Be sure to check out the sale on the 15th-16th.

Are you getting a Kindle or Fire tablet during the Prime Day sale?
