Coming Soon – Slimline Longprimer

Coming soon from R.L. Allan is a new slimline Longprimer called the 43. The Longprimer (see our review of the 53 in brown here) is a staple in the premium KJV market. It was recently updated with a cleaner scan and is now available in several covers and a larger edition with wide outer margins called the 63 Longprimer Sovereign (see a guest review here).

With the recent paper improvements the Longprimer has been getting larger. There are still a market for those who prefer thinner Bibles. I still like the 32gsm edition that I reviewed years ago because it’s much easier to handle and carry than a thicker Bible. Fortunately, R.L. Allan has decided to develop a slimline edition. Slimmer editions are easier to handle, carry, and weigh less, so if you have to hold them they’re easier to use for longer periods of time.

The Longprimer 43 has a Highland goatskin cover with leather lining (edge-lined), three ribbons, semi-yapp, and art-gilted edges. To make it slimmer it will have highly opaque 28gsm paper. It will be available in six colors including Black, Brown, Navy, Red, Green, and Purple.

The 28gsm paper will definitely help with the size and weight. The opacity will be similar to the newer 36gsm edition. I think the trade-off will be worth it. I can’t wait for this one. You can see more at Allan’s blog: Slimming Down.

Here’s the info from RL Allan:

it’s just the same as the usual one except the spine is 1 1/4 inches rather than 1 1/2 or more.

Rethinking my aversion to Bibles with yap. Always thought it would be annoying but have also always wanted a premium leather slimline KJV.

I like a yapp, but it can make it difficult to turn pages near the font and back of the Bible if it’s lying on a table, desk, or pulpit. I”m with you on this one. I think this one would be a great choice and I’m willing to try it with a yapp.

      Randy,

Any idea if you will have the chance to review this one?

Hi Will. If I can fit it in my budget I will. I think this will be a good one.
