NIV Comfort Print TCR Size Comparisons – Review Part 2

Here’s a look at how all three sizes of the NIV Comfort Print Thompson Chain Reference Bible compare. I’ve included comparisons between the sizes and with the original Kirkbride editions. I’ll identify each of them. The Kirkbride large print and handy size editions are KJV, but they should give you an idea of how the new design and sizes compare.

Zondervan provided these Bibles in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review, only an honest one. All opinions are my own.

Size and Weight

Here are the overall sizes and weights for the covers that I have. Other covers might be a little different, but not much. The overall sizes and weights are:

  • Handy size – 5 3/4 x 8 7/8 x 1 5/8″, it weighs 2 lbs, 4 oz.
  • Regular size – 6 7/8 x 9 5/8 x 1 5/8″, it weighs 3 lbs.
  • Large print – 7 1/2 x 10 5/8 x 1 5/8, it weighs 3 lbs, 8 oz.
  • Premier Collection – 7 x 9 3/4 x 1 3/4″, it weighs 3 lbs, 11 oz.

Conclusion

The overall size of the Zondervan editions is a close match to the Kirkbride editions. The main difference is the Handy size, which has an extra inch at the bottom. For the same size text block, the Zondervan editions have a much larger font. The Zondervan Handy Size font matches the original regular size, and the Zondervan regular size font matches the original large print. The Zondervan fonts are also thicker and darker. Add to that a more opaque paper and the new Zondervan NIV Comfort Print Thompson Chain Reference Bibles are a complete win. I’m looking forward to seeing all the translations updated with the new Comfort Print design.
