Construction and Materials

We have the hardcover purple glitter edition which weighs 2 pounds, 8 ounces and measures 8″ x 6.25″ x 1.75″.  The glitter has a sealing coat over it so the cover is smooth except for faint indentations where the silver lettering and designs are located (and you won’t have to worry about leaving glitter everywhere). I would have called this color more of a hot pink or purplish-pink then purple though it does look a little more purple when compared to the two light pink versions.

The other two covers available are a pink with silver highlights LuxLeather hardcover and a pink with multi-color design flex-cover edition. (picture provided by Christian Art Gifts).

All of these covers are beautiful but one a little less pink and sparkly might be a good idea if they expand the line.

It has iridescent gilt page edges, one attached light purplish-pink ribbon marker, and a sewn binding.

The paper is about 38 gsm, off-white, and easy to turn. Several of the pages have lightly-ruled, two-inch-wide margins to provide open space for creativity.

Typography

It has a 9 point font text laid out in single column paragraph format. Poetry is set in stanzas. It is blackletter with chapter numbers and section headings in dark pink. The header has the page number in black on the outside corner and the guide verse in the center in dark pink. There is a bit of show-through but not enough to distract me while using it.

Study Helps

The ESV My Creative Bible for Girls starts with a few pages explaining how to use all the features of this Bible.

They have chosen one good verse for memorization from each book and listed them all in the front,

as well as highlighting each one in light pink within the text.

There are 366 devotions by Amanda Cowles in the margins. These were written to encourage girls in their Bible study and daily life.

A full index of these devotionals divided by topic can be found in the back.

Also included are character profiles of 50 Biblical women and girls. These have their own index list and a different look to be easy to tell apart from the devotionals.

Artwork

One of the key components of any creative art journaling Bible is the artwork and the ESV My Creative Bible for Girls is no exception. There are over 500 line-art illustrations to color. These include:

a different illustration on both endpapers and a dedication page with artwork,

12 illustrated prayers,

a full-page illustration for the beginning of each book,

several other full-page illustrations,

and 350 designed Scripture verses in the margins.

There is even an illustrated bookmark included.

These illustrations were all designed for this Bible and include many typical girl friendly themes like flowers, animals, young girls, and much more.

An index of all the illustrated verses is included. I find these indexes very helpful when I’m looking for illustrations about a Bible study topic.

Final Thoughts on the ESV My Creative Bible for Girls

I really like the My Creative Bible for Girls. With study materials focused mainly on growing with God, lots of fun artwork, and plenty of space for their own thoughts and creations this is a Bible many girls will love spending time with.

It might not be just young girls who enjoy it either. Working with this Bible for my review had me in touch with my inner child and loving every minute of it.

This is great choice for girls who are looking for a first journaling Bible of their own. It’s sure to show up on the wish lists of girls (of all ages) who are both new to journaling and those who’ve journalled before but are ready for a new Bible to work in.
