New Testament Set

The set contains 21 volumes with most books of the Bible having their own volume. A few smaller books are combined, but they go together. For example, 1st and 2nd Thessalonians are in a single volume, Titus and Philemon are together, 1st and 2nd Peter are together, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John are in a single volume that also includes Jude. Each volume prints the names of the books on the spines and the front. Each one has a different font and font style.

The colors stand out and I find them interesting. The books range in color from orange to green, to blue, and then purple. The gospels are orange, Acts through Titus are green, Hebrews through Jude are blue, and Revelation is purple. The shades of color vary, but they are inconsistent. For example, they don’t go from a light shade of green to a dark shade of green. Instead, the shades vary from light to dark to light again, and they include different tones within the colors. A few of the green books include some blue within the green.

The set includes a case to hold the 21 volumes. It’s black with no printing and it’s sturdy. They fit tightly into the case and it can be a touch tricky to get them out. I tip it forward and then push the books around the book I want back in. This gives me just enough room to grab the book and pull it out of the case. The overall size of the slipcase is Slipcase: 9.75 x 7.2 x 6.6″. The entire set weighs over 12 lbs.

Binding

Each book is a glued paperback. The front cover shows the LSB logo, the name of the book close to the center, and the title of the set at the bottom. The spine shows the same information printed horizontally so it’s easy to read when the book is lying down. The back cover shows the Steadfast Bibles logo and the bar code. The front and back are scored so the pages stay open easier. However, they are paperbacks, so they do want to close. Each book is a different shade of four colors: orange, green, blue, and purple.

Paper

The paper is thick and opaque. I’m not sure of the gsm, but it’s probably around 100gsm. It’s bright white. Show-through from the text is almost non-existent. The paper is great for all types of pens, pencils, and markers. The page edges are white and the corners are rounded.

Typography and Layout

The LSB text is presented in a single-column, verse-by-verse format. Poetry is indented with stanzas, letters are indented, and Old Testament quotes are in all caps. There is extra space between each line and even more space between each verse. The layout was designed for underlining and making notes within the text. There is also extra space between the verse numbers and the text. Bold verse numbers indicate paragraphs. Chapter numbers take the place of the first verse number. They’re larger and not as dark.

Across the top of the page with Bible text are the book name, chapter, and all verse numbers that appear on that page in the outer corner. Over the inner margin is a page summary. Page numbers appear in the bottom corner of every page. The print for the header and footer is light.

The font is 10-point, black letter. Is a regular weight, so it’s about medium dark. It’s highly consistent throughout. It has around 14 words per line. The text is centered on the page and they average between 5 to 10 verses per page, so the top and bottom margins range in size. The inner and outer margins are 1.25″. All of this means there is lots of space for notes around the text. Italics are used for supplied words. Personal pronouns pertaining to diety are capitalized.

Ruled Pages

On the right, opposite each Scripture page, is a lined page for notes, thoughts, prayers, observations, personal reflection, references, sermon outlines, artwork, or anything else you want to use it for. It has 41 faint lines. They’re spaced like college rule, which is my preferred type of ruled paper. Each book also has several lined pages in the front and back. These are great for lists, dates, events, color codes, short articles, etc.

Using the LSB Scripture Study Notebook

There are lots of ways to use the LSB Scripture Study Notebook set, such as marking up the biblical text as you read and study, recording sermon notes, writing prayers as you meditate on God’s Word, preparing for sermons or lessons preparation, personal reflection, observation, application, and lots more. In the images above, I’ve written notes with a Pigma Micron and an Accu-Gel Bible-Hi-Glider. Neither can be seen from the other side of the page. I’ve shown the page with Pigma Micron on the other side.

Conclusion

The LSB Scripture Study Notebook is an excellent Bible journal set. It provides plenty of space for notes within the text, around the text, and on the page beside the text. I love the colors of the covers. I’m not sure if they’re sewn, but they do look to be well-made. Their size makes them easy to carry individually and use. The paper and writing room are perfect for any writing and highlighting you want to do.
