It looks to be an 8-point font that’s nice and bold. This would be a great Bible for notes.
would you recommend this bible or the TBS westminster reference for a local minister?
Thank you
Hi Nathaniel. That’s a tough one. I’ve never actually seen the LCBP Mid Size Text, but I do have the Cambridge Cameo that it’s based on and I have other LCBP Bibles that have similar build and paper. For readability I prefer the TBS. I like the creamy tone for the paper and it has a slightly larger font that is a sharp and looks laser printed. The Cameo is the older ‘printing-press’ style font that isn’t as sharp. The Cameo’s font is bolder than the TBS, so it might be easier to read in dim lighting. The only thing I don’t like about the Cameo text is the words are crammed together. Overall, to me, the TBS looks better on the inside. I like the 200k references and the definitions in the margin. It’s great for study. It also has lots of paper in the back for outlines and sermon notes. It’s maps look far better than any maps I’ve seen from LCBP. The Mid Size Text is superior for note-taking. It has enough references and it has translation notes in the center column. If it has the same concordance as the Cameo then both the TBS and the LCBP have about the same concordance. The LCBP paper is better for writing. I don’t know about the Mid Size Text, but other Bibles I have from LCBP have a shine to the page that make it difficult to see when light hits it directly. As far as construction, LCBP wins hands down. It’s built more like an Allan with edge lining. It even has perimeter stitching and leather lining. Sometimes their covers can be a little too soft and take scratches too easily. The TBS is built fine, but the LCBP is more elegant. They’re both great choices. I think I would choose this way: If the Minister has a wide-margin now, or writes in his (or her) Bible, I would go with the Mid Size Text. If not, I would go with the TBS Westminster. It might even come down to whether or not the Minister prefers red-letter (Mid Size Text) or black-letter (Westminster). You can’t make a bad choice between the two.
