Brian Chung and Bryan Chung of Alabaster have announced the next installment in the Bible Beautiful project – the book of Psalms.
Kickstarter funding for the Bible Beautiful Psalms started January 31st 2018.
The Bible Beautiful project produces individual books of the Bible integrating imagery, typography and layout design within the text. They are using photographic images, the majority of which were created specifically for this project after in-depth study of the scriptures.
Psalms seemed the logical next book (after the gospels) to them. A beautiful book that almost everyone knows a chapter or two of (or at least a verse or two) Psalms is an ancient document of poetry and song that shows the full range of human emotion. Most of us are use to experiencing the Bible through words but they have seen a longing to experience it in more visually creative ways and Psalms seems a perfect fit for the intersection of beauty, creativity and faith these books are designed to be.
I’m glad to see the book of Psalms since it was on my short list of books I wanted them do next. (The rest of the list is currently Acts, Genesis, Proverbs, Hebrews, and the Pastoral Epistles). It’s the only extended portion of scripture that is mankind talking to God and it can help us learn to express both our joy and sorrow to God and each other. Which book would you like to see next?
All 150 Psalms will be in a single volume which will match the books from the Gospel Set (review here) and have the following specifications
- 7.5″ x 9.5″
- 232 pages
- 100# covers (soft-touch aqueous coating)
- 80# uncoated interior paper
- NLT (chosen for modern language without sacrificing true meaning)
Bryan and Brian are hoping these books will not only give Christians a new way to experience God but that they will be a way to encourage the spiritually curious (who may be intimidated by a large book of nothing but words) to read the Bible.
If they reach their funding goal they plan for the Bible Beautiful Psalms to start shipping in May 2018. This project is currently almost 25% funded and the campaign will end March 7th. There are currently Early Backer slots open which will reserve you a copy for a pledge of $25, once they are all gone it will take a $30 pledge to reserve one. If you don’t already have a copy of The Bible Beautiful Gospel Set (or would like another set) an Early Backer pledge of $105 will get you all 5 volumes with the price being $120 after all early slots are gone. You can find more information and other packages on the Kickstarter page.
