Frost Leather has sent me a rebound Bible for review. This rebind is in crimson goatskin with a river grain and lots of special features. I was thrilled when I opened to box to find that it’s a hand-sized, single-column, World NASB. In this review, we’ll take a close look at this rebind and compare it to a few other goatskin Bibles.

Crimson River Goatskin Cover
The crimson river goatskin has a reddish-brown color that’s both rich and deep. I love this color. The river grain has long gullies that look like the bottom of a river (which is what I assume it refers to). The grain is pronounced. It looks and feels elegant. This is a thick leather. It’s highly flexible, but it’s also not too floppy. I can hold it open in one hand with no trouble. I’m sure the overall size of 5.5 x 8 x 1.25″ helps with that (which is my personal favorite overall size for a Bible).
It has a generous yapp with two tooled lines that trace around the text block and the outer edge of the leather. The leather edges are glued over to meet the liner. Nothing is printed on the front. The spine has HOLY BIBLE, NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE, and FROST stamped in gold. The spine also has 5 pressed tooled hubs.
Liner
The liner is edge-lined crimson lambskin. It would normally have different end sheets. These end sheets are from the Bible itself. They work perfectly with this leather. Frost Bibles did inform me that they won’t be using this liner in the future, so I won’t focus too much on it. It has a gilt-line around the inside of the perimeter where the outer leather folds over to meet it. It looks and feels elegant. I like this leather a lot. The corner-work is excellent.
Ribbons and Head / Tail Bands
It has three premium red ribbons. They’re 4 inches long and 3/8″ wide. They’re more than long enough to pull to the corner to open the Bible. This width and length are the perfect sizes for this Bible. The head/tail bands are white, which works well with just about any cover.
Art Gilt
The art-gilt is rose. It looks like it’s straight from the factory. It’s clean, consistent, and still has the shine to the gold. I never would have guessed this was applied by hand. This is the cleanest art-gilt that I’ve seen in a rebind.

This rebound Bible from Frost Leather looks and feels like something from RL Allan. Every element of the work is highly professional. The Crimson river grain goatskin is elegant and it has the right amount of floppiness for me. This is the best art-gilding I’ve seen that wasn’t done on a manufacturing production line. If you’re looking for a high-quality rebind, Frost Leather is an excellent choice.
