NKJV Note Worthy New Testament Bible was designed to help you read and journal through the New Testament in a year. The idea is to write about your thoughts on the daily reading in the space provided for each day, and then use the seventh day to reflect on the previous six days. I love this idea, but unfortunately, the design hinders the execution. This is ISBN 9781400338542, printed in India.

Book Construction

The NKJV Note Worthy New Testament Bible is a hardcover edition with an elastic strap to keep it closed. It’s the same as a regular journaling edition. It is sewn and opens easily to any page and seems well-made. The text on the cover is printed in silver. It includes one wide and extra-long ribbon. The overall size is 6.5 x 8.25 x 1.1, and it weighs 1 lb, 6.7 oz. It stays open to any page with ease and is excellent for use at a desk or in your lap.

The paper is extra-thick, 60 GSM or higher, and is great for writing. It has a rough texture, is highly opaque, and is offwhite in color. There is a slightly red hue that you can see in the gutter. I like this paper for reading. In the back are 14 pages for journaling separately from the daily reading.

Typography and Design

The NKJV NT text is placed in a double-column, paragraph layout. It includes extra-large section headings. After the text on every page are dotted lines for notes. The left column shows the day and week, along with the range of verses for that page. The page number is centered at the bottom. This edition does not include footnotes. The NKJV Comfort Print text is 9-point, black letter. It doesn’t seem to be line-matched, but it doesn’t matter with this paper. It has a lot of space between the lines, making it ideal for underlining. It has a half-inch margin on all sides, which is good for small notes, symbols, or references.

Daily Reading and Journaling

The daily reading is already divided for you. It includes 6 daily readings for 52 weeks. The 7th day has a journaling page for your thoughts for the week. Each day includes lines for journaling, but the number of lines is inconsistent. One day might have 17 lines for notes, but the next day might only have 2 lines (or no lines). I’d like to have the daily reading divided a little more evenly, or have a full page for notes for each day. This Bible is small enough that it would still be usable with double the pages.

Conclusion

I like the NKJV Note Worthy New Testament Bible as a reading edition. It doesn’t have a lot of space, but it is great for reading and making small notes. Unfortunately, the space provided for daily notes varies too much. If you want to mark the text and write symbols or references in the margin, then this is a great choice. If your goal is to journal, I recommend using a separate notebook or journal.
