The Fruitful Life by Jerry Bridges

The Fruitful Life by Jerry Bridges is a study on the fruit of the Spirit. This book goes much further than that. It not only covers what the fruit of the Spirit are, but also covers why you need the fruit and how you get the fruit. It also shows how to keep the fruit in your life.

Jerry Bridges shows from scripture that taking on God’s character is essential to our fruitful life. He talks about having the right motives in having a devotion to God, and shows that God is our source of power and how we should stay connected to Him through prayer. Bridges further discusses responsibility and growth and how they affect our character.

Bridges shows what is required to have a devotion to God with insights that include the fear of God, the love of God, and the desire for God and how these attitudes bring us closer to God.

Bridges covers each of the fruit of the Spirit individually and in great depth including humility, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness and goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Each study includes many scriptures to paint the picture.

Bridges follows his study on the fruit of the Spirit with a final chapter on seeking a deeper devotion to God. Bridges shows how to seek for a deeper devotion through prayer, meditation, worship, and fellowship with God.

Each chapter ends with exercises for practice and discussion. These practices are scripture based and help drive home the points made in each chapter. This work is very engaging and will help you get a closer walk with God. This is my first review book from NavPress and it is already an essential addition to my library. I highly recommend The Fruitful Life by Jerry Bridges.
