Updated 6/24/2024 – added Quentel vs Quentel video

Previous Quentel

I don’t have the previous version of the ESV, but I do have the NKJV Quentel. The font is the same. The only difference is the translation and cover. The older Quentel looks great, but it has fewer words per line and the font isn’t as dark. The new edition is darker and has more white space in the text. More words per line gives more space for intentions (such as let’s) and poetry. I can use either one, but I do prefer a darker font and more words per line.

Goatskin Canterbury with Full Yapp

Here’s how the Black Pearl calfskin compares to Canterbury in black goatskin with full yapp. the Black Pearl calfskin looks more interesting to me, but the goatskin has a pebbly grain. Both are excellent. I also like the smaller decorative drop caps.

ESV Cambridge Topaz

The ESV Cambridge Topaz is around the same size. It has a larger font but does not have a poetic setting. It has a verse-by-verse format, which many prefer for preaching. It has the same references and concordance as the ESV Quentel.

Crossway Omega

This is the older edition of the Crossway Omega. It is slightly thinner. Its poetry isn’t as clean as it doesn’t have as much white space in the text. It is a solid Bible, though, and the goatskin cover has a deeper grain. The Omega has the same references but it has a smaller concordance. It also has fewer maps.
