Thomas Nelson & Zondervan – 2018 CBA Unite

The HarperCollins booth included a private meeting area surrounded by shelves of books and Bibles that wrapped around two sides. They had sections dedicated to specific genres and translations, and they had a showcase for the upcoming Premier Collection. I was able to get a sneak-peek at the Premier Collection (the photos are of preliminary designs and might be different from the production editions). I was also able to interview the key people behind the Comfort Print project and the Premier Collection including  Doug Lockhart, Nikki Getman, Daniel Marrs, and Klaus Krogh of 2K/Denmark. The video is at the bottom of this article.

Spanish Bibles

They had a section just for Spanish books and Bibles. It’s always good to see publishers investing in other languages. The more the better.

KJV Personal Size Giant Print Reference Bible

I was able to take a look at the KJV Personal Size Giant Print Reference Bible in the new Comfort Print setting. It places the text in two columns and the references across the footer. It’s a perfect size for carrying and reading and this design is clean. I need one of these.

Premier Collection

The real star of the show was the Premier Collection. They cover this in detail in the video, but it has goatskin leather, elegant ribbons, 36gsm paper, and looks and feels amazing. Their target for the price-point was $150. The demo in the photos are of a prototype, so there may be some differences when the real-deal hits the market in September. They even made a nice stand to show it off. I hope this means we’ll be able to find these in Christian bookstores where we can see them in person.

Video Interview with HarperCollins and 2K/Denmark

I’m impressed with the HarperCollins (Thomas Nelson / Zondervan) crew and with Klaus Krogh of 2K/Denmark. They have a real passion for the work they do and it was amazing getting to meet them in person. I also like that they wanted to produce high-quality but they didn’t want to go beyond a certain price-point. They wanted to produce high-quality that was within reach to more people. I’m looking forward to the Premier Collection.
