The Thomas Nelson NKJV Giant Print Thinline has a 12-point font, creating an NKJV that’s excellent for reading and preaching without being a large Bible. It’s available in imitation leather in black or brown. Both colors are available with or without thumb-index. I’m reviewing all four options. They’re made in China.

Cover and Binding
The covers are imitation leather with paper paste-down liners. They’re Smyth sewn and stay completely open on any page. I’d love to see all Bibles stay open as these do. They’re thin, so they don’t feel too large. The large footprint makes them noticeably floppier than most Bibles. Each has two satin ribbons. The overall size is 7 3/8 x 10 5/8 x 1″ and they weigh 2 lbs, 4.7 oz.
Black
The black imitation leather has a grain that looks like goatskin. It has perimeter-stitching and a debossed pattern around the front and back. The front has HOLY BIBLE printed in gold. The spine includes 3 sections with a gold patter, 4 spine hub indications in gold, and the text and logo in gold. It has one black ribbon and one red ribbon.
Brown
The brown has a smoother texture with a good amount of color variation. It also has perimeter stitching and the debossed design on the front and back. On the front is HOLY BIBLE printed in gold. The spine has 5 dark brown patches with gold lines creating 4 spine hub indications. The text and logo are also printed in gold. It has one red ribbon and one dark brown ribbon.
Thumb Index
Both colors are available with thumb-index. The tabs include 4 books each. This makes it difficult to find some of the books. They’re shiny black with gold printing.
Paper
The paper seems to be somewhere in the mid 30’s in gsm. It’s white in color and it’s highly opaque. The show-through is only noticeable in poetic settings. It has a slightly rough texture that makes it easy to separate and turn the pages. There is no glare under direct light.
Typography
The text is presented in a double-column paragraph format with poetry set to stanzas and letters indented. Section headings are bold in all-caps. The header includes the book, chapter, and verse in the outer margin, and the page number in the center. The chapter numbers are drop-caps.
The typeface is 12-point Comfort Print designed specifically for the NKJV by 2K/Denmark. It’s red-letter. The black letter is dark and the red letter is medium/dark. Both are highly consistent throughout. It’s printed with line-matching, meaning the text is printed in the same location on both sides of the page to reduce show-through.
It has around 8 words per line and has a good amount of space between the lines, making it comfortable to read. The text never looks cramped. The wide inner margin brings the text out of the gutter. The translation footnotes are placed in the footer in a single column. There is extra space between the verses so they’re easy to find. I find it easy to read and preach from.
Reading Plan
In the back is a 365-day reading plan. Each month shows the date and a morning and evening reading. The morning reading is from the New Testament and the evening reading is from the Old Testament. It starts with Matthew and Genesis and takes you through the Bible once per year.
Maps
It includes 8 glossy pages with 7 full-color Thomas Nelson maps. They’re printed in bright colors and are colorful. They include topography, distance, routes, borders, possible locations of lost places, battles, elevation, cities, and locations for the events of Jesus’ ministry. It doesn’t have an index, but the maps are annotated well, making them easy to use.

Conclusion
The Thomas Nelson NKJV Giant Print Thinline Bible is an excellent Bible for reading and preaching. The materials are high quality for the price. The paper is opaque and the and print highly readable. Out of the box the cover stays open to any page without trying to close. It doesn’t feel too large. If you’re interested in a giant print text-only NKJV that’s great for reading, the NKJV Giant Print Thinline from Thomas Nelson is a great choice.
