The Thomas Nelson KJV Giant Print Thinline presents the 2K/Denmark designed typeface in a 12-point font to create a KJV that’s easy to read and preach from but, at the same time, isn’t an overly large Bible. It’s available in imitation leather in black or brown, and with or without thumb-index. I’m reviewing all four options. They’re made in China.

Cover and Binding
The covers are imitation leather and include paper paste-down liners. They’re Smyth sewn and have no trouble staying completely open on any page. They stay open better than any imitation leather I’ve seen. The thin format keeps it from feeling too large. The footprint does make it floppier than most Bibles. They have two satin ribbons. The overall size is 7.25 x 10.5 x 1″ and they weigh 2 lbs, 5 oz.
Black
The grain on the black imitation leather looks like goatskin. It’s perimeter-stitched and has a debossed pattern around the front perimeter. On the front is HOLY BIBLE printed in gold. The spine includes 5 smooth patches outlined in gold at the top and bottom with gold text printed in two of them. It has a black ribbon and a red ribbon.
Brown
The brown has a smooth texture with variation in the color. It also has a debossed design around the perimeter on the front and back, just inside the perimeter stitching. HOLY BIBLE is printed in gold on the front. The spine has patches of darker brown with gold designs within them. The text is also printed in gold. This one has a red ribbon and a dark brown ribbon.
Thumb Index
Both colors are available with and without thumb-indexing. The tabs are shiny black and the gold text stands out. The indexing places four books per tab. Most thumb-index editions have 3 books per tab, so this one can take longer to find books. I prefer one book per tab, but I’m picky.
Paper
The paper seems to be in the mid 30’s in gsm. It’s white in color and has a slightly rough texture that makes it easy to turn. It’s highly opaque. It has no glare under direct light. Showthrough is barely noticeable.
Typography
The text is presented in a double-column verse-by-verse format. Section headings are in all-caps. The header shows the page number in the center and the book, chapter, and verse in the outer margin. Verses are indented. The drop-cap is the chapter number.
The typeface is 12-point Comfort Print designed by 2K/Denmark. It’s dark and clear of distractions. There are no pilcrows (paragraph markers) or self-pronouncing marks. It’s red-letter. Both the black and red are highly consistent throughout. It’s printed with line-matching, meaning that the lines of text are printed in the same location on both sides of the page to reduce show-through.
It has around 8 words per line. It has a good amount of space between the lines. The text doesn’t feel crowded. It has a wide inner margin that helps bring the text out of the gutter. I find it easy to read and preach from.
Reading Plan
It includes a 365-day reading plan. Each month shows the date with a morning and evening reading. The morning reading is from the New Testament, starting with Matthew, and the evening reading is from the Old Testament, starting with Genesis. It takes you through the Bible one time per year.
Maps
It includes 7 full-color Thomas Nelson maps printed on 8 thick glossy pages. They’re printed in bright colors that lean toward earth-tones. They show topography, distance, routes, borders, possible locations of lost places, battles, elevation, cities, and locations for the events of Jesus’ ministry. It doesn’t include a map index, but the maps are annotated well, so they’re still easy to use.

Comparisons
Thomas Nelson Large Print Thinline
Thomas Nelson Large Print Thinline is a different layout, but its design and tools are similar. It has a smaller font and it’s smaller overall, making it easier to carry and manage. The paper isn’t as opaque, but it’s still good paper for the price. The cover doesn’t lay open as well as the giant print. I’d love to see this one with the same cover as the giant print. I’d also love to see it in the Premier Collection.
Thomas Nelson KJV Preaching Bible
Thomas Nelson KJV Preaching Bible is thicker but has a smaller footprint. It’s a reference edition with thicker paper, but the font size is similar. It doesn’t have any tools in the back. Both are excellent for preaching.
Thomas Nelson Giant Print KJV Premier Collection
Thomas Nelson Giant Print KJV Premier Collection is thicker and has a smaller footprint. It’s a full reference edition. The font is slightly smaller. This one is goatskin, but you can get the same layout in cheaper covers. Both are great for reading and preaching.
Conclusion
The Thomas Nelson KJV Giant Print Thinline Bible is a joy to read and preach from. Even though it is a giant print edition, it doesn’t feel too large to use. The materials are better than most I’ve seen in this price range. The paper and print are highly readable. I especially like the cover that stays open to any page.
It will be available this fall in the Premier Collection. I think this is an excellent choice for a higher quality edition. It could end up being more difficult to handle than most because of the larger footprint and thin spine. Even in imitation leather, it’s a floppy Bible.
If you’re interested in a giant print text-only KJV that doesn’t feel like a large Bible, the KJV Giant Print Thinline from Thomas Nelson is a great choice.
