Accu-Gel Highlighters and Pigma MicronPN – Review

GT Luscombe provides some of the best Bible highlighters available. I typically avoid highlighters because of bleed-through. All products from GT Luscombe are made for marking in Bibles and will not bleed through the paper. There will almost always be some show-through. That’s to be expected when you have paper in the 20-40 gsm (grams per square meter) range. But, you won’t see ink soaking through (or bleeding through) the paper. In this review I’mm taking a look at two products that I think are great for Bible marking – Accu-Gel Highlighters and a new black Pigma Micron marker called MicronPN.

Accu-Gel Highlighters Inductive Study Kit

The highlighters I’m reviewing is the Bible-Hi-Glider 10 piece Inductive Study Kit. The name of the color is marked on the highlighter along with the model number. They’ve kept the names simple (which I prefer).

Colors include:

  1. Blue
  2. Brown
  3. Gray
  4. Green
  5. Lemon Yellow
  6. Orange
  7. Pink
  8. Red
  9. Violet
  10. Yellow

Here’s a look at the highlighters including the back side of the page so you can see the amount of show-through.

The highlighters are very similar to crayons. They have a cap to keep the covered. If you’re holding the highlighter so that its tip is facing downward, the top of the highlighter has grooves (creating a grip). You’ll turn this section in order to extract or retract the gel.

The tip of the gel is thick like a crayon. It’s difficult to underline without getting color on the text. It isn’t made for that. It’s meant to be a text highlighter. If you only want to underline then this set isn’t what I’d recommend for you.

The color goes on smooth. It doesn’t smear or indent the paper. I found them easy to hold and highlight with. The show-through is minimal even on thin paper.

In these images I’ve colored a Hendrickson Large Print Personal Size KJV. The colors don’t smudge the opposing page, and since they are dry highlighters you don’t have to wait for the color to dry before turning the page. The colors won’t fade over time, so your highlighting will always look as good as the day you highlighted the Bible.

The highlighters come in a cylindrical container with a zipper, which makes an excellent carry pouch. It also includes a color-code that shows the topic along with the color to use for that topic. I already use my own color-code, but this one makes sense and I would have used it if I didn’t already have my own. I like that a color-code is included.

Pigma MicronPN

PN stands for Plastic Nib. The advantage in the plastic nib is it doesn’t clog if you write or draw over other art mediums. The nib is pressure sensitive, so the line will vary slightly in thickness as you vary your pressure. Like all Pigma Micron’s, the MicronPN uses archival quality ink and won’t fade over time. The tip is .003, which is a good size for both underlining and making notes. I found it easy to hold and use. I like this size as an overall size for notes and underlining because it keeps me from setting a marker down and picking up the next one.

It doesn’t bleed through the paper in the Hendrickson. There is a small amount of show-through, but that’s to be expected with this thin paper.

Ending Thoughts

Both the Accu-Gel Bible-Hi-Glider 10 piece Inductive Study Kit and the Pigma MicronPN are excellent products for Bible marking. I found them easy to use and they don’t bleed through the page. The Accu-Gel highlighters have rich colors but it’s still easy to read the text through the color. They’re smooth, but it is difficult to make a straight line like you can with wet highlighters. I trust these highlighters with my Bible paper.

The Pigma MicronPN marker is equally smooth. Show-through is minimal and it’s the perfect size for underlining and note-taking. It’s also available in other colors. I enjoyed using both products and can easily recommend them to anyone that highlights or takes notes in their Bibles.
