Moms Bible, God’s Wisdom for Mothers is a New Century Version Study/Devotional Bible that contains notes written to lead and guide mothers in her walk with God and in strengthening her relationship with her children. The Bible works to firmly establish in the minds of mothers how crucial their unique position of mom really is. Some of the features include book introductions, special sections that include articles, and a topical index. The special sections are interesting. It contains a very well written introductory paragraph on the topics of Creation, evolution, and science. Verses for meditation are highlighted. The notes are by far the best feature of this Bible. Most of the questions and answers are really good- short and sweet, and to the point. The hard cover seems sturdy. The fonts are nice and readable. I’m not sure of this font-size, but it looks like 8-point. I don’t really like how the New Century Version reads. If the goal was to go with a modern version I would have preferred the New King James. Some verses, such as Isaiah 9:6, lose impact. This Bible suggests that you should write notes in the margin of your Bible, but the margins are too small to write notes of any significance. The floral printing in the margin is pretty, but it would have been better to have a slightly larger, clear margin...Read More

Review by Randy A Brown of Studies In Scripture The Life Recovery Bible is a Bible with notes and features that are written specifically for people that are in need of recovery, or going through a recovery process. The notes are very applicable no matter what you are recovering from, including alcohol, drugs, or just about anything. It contains many articles and notes that are based on a 12-step recovery plan. The notes point out key elements from scripture that apply to the recovery process. It includes many helps and devotionals to build faith and confidence, and to help you understand your situation and how God can help you through it. The free review Bible I received from Tyndale is (roughly) 6.5 x 9.25 in hardcover. It is made well and is money well spent. The New Living Translation is very readable. I would recommend the NLT more for reading than study because it is a ‘thought for thought’ translation rather than a ‘literal’ translation, but as a reading Bible the NLT is great and it serves the purpose of this Bible well. The text is very easy to read, though it is not red-letter. I’m not sure, but it looks like maybe an 8 or 8.5 point font. It contains bold headings within the text, which are really nice. The features are what make this Bible really shine....Read More
Oxford University Press just released the large print edition of the Scofield Study Bible III in New King James Version. The Scofield Study Bible III is the 2002 revision of the original Scofield Study Bible. The NKJV edition has been available for a while, but it is now available in large print, and it looks nice. Study Bibles are a great addition to your library because they contain lots of notes and features in one volume for a low price. I am always cautious of notes in study Bibles, and the Scofield is no different. I’m not just picking on Scofield, I caution every one of all study notes, even those found in commentaries and study tools. With that said, the Scofield III has lots of nice features. Notes within the text include book introductions, book outlines, charts, definitions, lists, in-text maps, marginal references, chain references, chronology, and more. In the back of the Bible there is a subject index, a chain reference, an index of proper names, a nice concordance, and 16 Oxford maps. The notes that make the Scofield III unique, in the form of articles, charts, etc., are placed within boxes at the bottom of the page. The Scofield III has some of the most comprehensive headings in any study Bible. The section headings are very detailed and there are lots of them. They are in...Read More
The Hebrew/Greek Keyword Study Bible is an excellent Bible for word studies in the original languages. It includes commentary by Spiros Zodhiates, word studies throughout the text, specific words in the text are keyed to Strong’s Concordance, a pronunciation guide, Hebrew and Greek dictionaries with Strong’s numbers, a word analysis for major words, and about an inch margin on the outside of the page. I don’t have many complaints about this Bible. Overall it is a very good study Bible, but one major complaint I have is that only certain words in the text have Strong’s numbers. This means that you still need a separate Strong’s dictionary. The best part of this Bible is the Hebrew and Greek dictionaries, but sadly you still have to have a separate Strong’s dictionary in order to know the number so you can look up the word in the back of the Bible. Still, most of the major words do have the Strong’s numbers, so it is very helpful when you don’t have a complete dictionary with you. The Hebrew Greek Key Word Study Bible is available in several versions and...Read More
I’ve used a Thompson Chain Reference for many years. This Bible is primarily a topical Bible. It contains over 7000 topics that are chain referenced throughout the Bible. The margin contains the topics in each verse with a reference to the next verse in the chain. In the back is a topical index that gives you a number for each topic. Turning to the number in the back gives you all of the verses that Thompson lists for each topic. It also contains character studies, archaeology, etc., and one of the best concordances in any Bible available. Thompson is widely used because it doesn’t contain any notes or commentary, allowing scripture to interpret scripture. It’s not 100% thorough in its topics (you won’t find the Rapture, or even much on the Millennium), but it’s still the best I’ve seen. One thing I really like is that most of the time, when I go to write a topic in the margin it’s already there. For example, in Acts 2:38, I would write repentance, baptism in Jesus name, and filled with the Spirit. All three topics are already there. The Thompson Chain Reference Bible is available in several translations, sizes, and...Read More
