I’ve heard a lot of good things about Faber Castell Gelatos so I recently bought a set of metallic ones. I figured if I was curious how well they worked in different Bibles some of you would be too. I decided to start my experimentation in some of the journaling Bibles we’ve already featured and show you gelatos in various Bibles. The pack I purchased included 12 gelatos, 2 blending tools, and a brush. Just like in my various art mediums posts I’ve included the backs of the pages so you can see the amount of show through, bleed...Read More

Chalk It Up To Grace is a beautiful inspirational coloring book published by Paige Tate & Co. I was hoping to get this review up yesterday (National Coloring Book Day) but life happens. The pictures are printed on black backgrounds to look more like the chalkboard work that the artist, Shannon Roberts, is known for. 13 of the images come in both a small and large version. There are 29 8″ x 10″ designs and 14 5″ x 7″ designs in all. The book is made of thick paper that is perforated to be easily removed but you would...Read More
In my attempts to learn new lettering styles I recently purchased Creative Lettering and Beyond. It is put out by Walter Foster and has 4 sections, Modern Calligraphy, Illustrated Lettering, Chalk Lettering, and Lettering Crafts each written by a different artist. The book includes practice pages (and they give you permission to photocopy the calligraphy practice page). It’s a craft book not a Bible book so only part of the information is relevant to Bible journaling. Modern Calligraphy I haven’t practiced enough to be proficient yet but the first section by Laura Lavender is a very complete explanation of...Read More
My daughter (Hannah) and I recently attended an Illuminated Journaling Workshop taught by Jann Gray and hosted at Cedar Springs Christian Store in Knoxville, TN. It was a two day, three session workshop and I met a lot of wonderful people, had a lot of fun, and learned a lot. Friday night we had to drive through a rainstorm to get there and arrived a couple of minutes late. My daughter didn’t want to risk getting her camera wet so all of our pictures are from Saturday. Jann Gray is a very sweet and outgoing person with a lot...Read More
I just received my pre-release review copy of Tyndale’s Inspire Bible: Large Print Edition. The first creative journaling Bible to be offered in large print it’s noticeably larger than the standard edition with larger text, larger illustrations, and more room for drawing. Some will probably think it’s a little large for carrying though. Other than the cover changing color (a little more blue than aqua) it seems to be the same Bible just bigger. We will have a full review, a various mediums in this Bible post, and maybe even a video review up before it’s September 8th release....Read More
