New Bible Releases for January 2018

Between the holidays and dealing with the cold I finished up my new Bible releases for January 2018 list a little later than usual. January turned out not to be as slow a month as I was expecting for new Bibles.

Some (but not all) of the links found on this page are affiliate links.

Big news in January for Schuyler. Preorders for the Quentel NIV and Thinline Quentel NASB opened January 1st. The NIVs are expected to start shipping between the middle and end of the month with the Thinline NASBs most likely to start shipping 1-3 weeks later.

Church Bible Publishers will have the Handsize “Turquoise” Center Column Reference Bible for sale in just a few days. It measures 8.5″ by 5.75″ and has a 9.5 font. Besides the many leather covers available this same text block is available in hardback. You’ll find it listed on their website as the Hardback Pew Bible and it’s reasonable price makes it a good choice for a first Bible as well.

Crossway will be releasing the ESV Super Giant Print Bible at the end of the month. With a 17 point font it truly is Super Giant print but of course that big of a print makes a rather large Bible. The text block measure 10″x 7″ with the bound bible being slightly larger and it weighs over 5 pounds. It will be available at the end of the month.

At the other end of the size spectrum Crossway will also be releasing new covers for their ESV Large Print Compact Bibles in late January. These Bibles measure approximately 6.5″ x 4.5″, weigh about a pound, and have an 8 point font (which is large for this size Bible). With additions to the line including a black hardcover with an elastic strap & red letter and covers with debossed (embossed?) designs in your choice of charcoal, teal, lavender, and brown it’s fairly safe to say this highly portable Bible has a cover to match almost every personality.

Thomas Nelson has a redesigned full color version of their NIV The Women’s Study Bible coming this month. The redesign will still include the wide variety of study helps that has made this such a popular Bible. It will be available in a variety of covers on or around January 23rd.

New Releases for the NKJV Comfort Print

Thomas Nelson is hard at work producing many of their Bibles in their new custom NKJV font, the Comfort Print designed by 2k/Denmark. Several smaller Bibles will be released at the end of the month using this font.

  • The NKJV Thinline Bible will be available in 7 cover styles (including the one pictured above). It has a 9 point font, two ribbon markers, the words of Christ in red, and full color maps.
  • The NKJV Compact Thinline Bible is the same Bible just smaller. It has a 6.5 point font and will be available in 4 different covers.
  • The NKJV Thinline Bible Large Print is for those who want a portable bible but prefer larger text. It has a 10.5 point font and 5 different covers to choose from.
  • The NKJV Deluxe Gift Bible will also feature the Comfort Print Text. Designed for gift giving it includes a presentation page and a dictionary/concordance as well as the word of Christ in red. It has a 7.5 point font and will be available in 11 different cover styles.

Final Thoughts

While the new Bible selection is a little small it looks like 2018 is off to a good start. The publisher’s are already informing us of some of what they hope to produce this year and I look forward to continuing to bring you the lastest release news throughout 2018.

Many of this posts links are affiliate links and specific stores were chosen either because the Bible is almost exclusively sold publisher direct or because at the time of publication of this post the Bible was available (for regular purchase or pre-order) at the lowest price. If they are no longer available at that store (or the price has risen) and you would still like to support Bible Buying Guide with your purchase consider using our list of affiliates on our Support for Free page. Another good option is to purchase through your local Bible bookstore.

If you know of a Bible releasing in January or a Bible publisher that wasn’t included please contact me at lucinda@BibleBuyingGuide.com so I can add it(them). You can also contact me if you have a Bible releasing in the next few months so I will be sure to include it in the correct new release post. Please label your email Bible releases.

Hi, what about the new revision Lockman is doing on the NASB? They said it would be complete by this year. Did you get any news from them?
    Thanks!

Hi. It’s been pushed back. The last I heard it was scheduled for 2019.
